Install the Life Counter on iPhone & iPad

Apple only allows one-tap installs from the App Store. This app is free and not on the App Store, so it installs through SideStore, a free app that signs it with your own Apple ID. You set SideStore up once with a computer, in about 15 minutes. After that, installing and updating happen on your phone.

No computer? Use the browser version. Open it in Safari, tap Share, then Add to Home Screen. You get a Life Counter icon that opens full screen and works offline, with nothing else to install.

Heads up: if SideStore or iloader shows a sign-in error such as -80045, Apple is temporarily blocking SideStore sign-ins. It isn't something you did. Wait and try again later rather than retrying over and over, since too many failed sign-ins can lock your Apple ID for a while.

  1. Before you start

    You'll need an iPhone or iPad on iOS 16.4 or newer with a passcode set, a Mac or Windows computer, a USB cable, Wi-Fi, and an Apple ID. It doesn't have to be the Apple ID on your phone: a separate free one works and keeps your main account out of it.

  2. Install LocalDevVPN on your iPhone

    Get LocalDevVPN from the App Store, open it and allow the VPN configuration. SideStore uses it to install and refresh apps, so it needs to be on whenever you do either.

  3. Install iloader on your computer

    Download iloader for Mac or Windows from the SideStore setup page. On Windows, install iTunes first.

  4. Install SideStore with iloader

    Plug your iPhone into the computer and tap Trust on the phone. Open iloader, sign in with your Apple ID, pick your phone and choose Install SideStore (Stable).

  5. Trust SideStore and turn on Developer Mode

    On the iPhone, go to Settings → General → VPN & Device Management, tap your Apple ID under Developer App and tap Trust. Then go to Settings → Privacy & Security → Developer Mode and turn it on. The phone restarts.

  6. Open SideStore

    Connect LocalDevVPN, open SideStore and sign in with the same Apple ID you used in iloader.

  7. Add the 3D Printed Games source

    In SideStore, open Sources, tap +, paste the link and add it.

  8. Install the Life Counter

    Find 3DPG Life Counter in SideStore and tap Free. It appears on your home screen like any other app.

  9. Keeping it working

    Apps signed with a free Apple ID last 7 days. SideStore renews them in the background when LocalDevVPN is on and you're on Wi-Fi, or you can open SideStore → My Apps and tap the days counter. Your games and settings are kept, and new versions of the Life Counter show up in SideStore as updates.
